Sensible but fun family car - suggestions required please

Afternoon all

I need a sensible but fun family car that gets decent MPG and am struggling to think of any.

A BMW 330D springs to mind but any other suggestions are welcome.

My budget is roughly £10K

Define "decent mpg"?

Over 30mpg?

With a similar budget I looked at the 330d / Volvo V50 and Audi S4. Bought the S4, no regrets.

Well I currently have cars that can do that so I am looking for something that will get much better than 30mpg really......
