Afternoon,

Sorry to dump this here, I didn't think the 'VXR' forum was the place for a 7 year old 1.2 Corsa.

I'm after advice from anyone in the know regarding 03 Vauxhall Corsas.

Friends car, 03 plate Corsa C. They've had it for nearly four years. In the last 3 months they’ve noticed the driver’s side mat and carpet are soaking wet. Never had a problem before and have not had any work done on the car in this period. About three weeks ago I took half the carpet up, dried it out over a weekend. Had a really good look for where it could be coming from. I checked all rain gutters, bungs etc and could find nothing untoward. I tried running a small amount of water onto the roof and you could see water dripping into the footwell from up inside the back of the dash near where the master cylinder is but could not see the exact source or route the water was taking. I ran out of time over the weekend and had to put everything back together and shock horror after the weekends rain its soaking wet again. Header tank water has stayed level over this period so I don’t suspect the heater matrix, although I’m not sure if that could’ve been the cause anyway?!

Does anyone know of any known fault or other areas I should be looking in? The only place my untrained eye tells me it could be is around or near where the master cylinder is fitted to the bulkhead? Otherwise its out with the gas axe for some proper investigating!

Any help, other than tell them to sell it, greatly appreciated!

I had a similar experience this summer (but not with a corsa). I checked all the drain points etc. and eventually gave up and went to the garage.

On my car (Alfa Spider) there is a hard rubber surround/seal which runs all round the windscreen. They pumped some special sealant (from 3M) between this and the glass using an ordinary gun like you'd use for bathroom/kitchen sealant. They used a knife (gently!) to lift the rubber from the glass, and pushed the nozzle in between, and pumped it in over the whole lower side of the screen. They used nearly a full tube.

I don't know the name of the product they used (I saw 3M on the tube and they had to order it specially), but it fixed the problem for me - we sat in an absolute downpour a week later, and didn't have a drop coming in. Previously I ended up with soaking wet feet if I got caught out in the rain.

Edit: Speeling!

1 checked the boxy things (know exactly what you mean!), both appear to be clear.

2. Good plan!

If the water is making its way in behind the dash, it could be a along a pipe/wiring loom which runs through the bulkhead.

The A-pillar trims come off fairly easily and it's worth yanking them off and running another water test make sure it's not the windscreen (have a look at the brand of glass - if the screen has been changed you could be looking at a major suspect).

A friend of mine bought a Primera and said he heard a sloshing sound as he went around corners. We took of the rear nearside doorcard and clearly the window seal had been badly fitted at Nissan Primera, there must have been 2 litres trapped. Drilled a whole and drained it, job done!

Thanks for the all the replies. Looks like it's a case of taking it apart again. It just seams strange the volume of water thats collecting and the fact it's just started happening. I guess the windscreen could be the culprit.

I've removed and refitted many of the Corsa C windscreens (and btw, they do not suffer from leaking windscreens by design) but these were leaking and some had very bad wind noise and a few with corrosion problems. All caused by inept, so called windscreen 'technicians'.
