New and Looking for help...
Discussion
Hi,
Im new to the site. I have nothing of great interest as i'm still 22 so just a run of the mill megane at the moment. Occasionally read Pistonheads when I have spare time as there's always new content to read, Been reading more recently so thought I would join and hopefully steal a bit of help as well.
I have recently acquired a '89 Cadillac SeVille thats in need of a good clean and a general tidy up. Its in need of an MOT and tax which im in no rush to do because of the winter. I have wanted an american car since i was young probably too many film watching lol. So its almost a dream come true.
My only issue before i take it on is, Looking to the next year, when i want to insure it..I tried a few 'main stream' companys and they seem to either be a fortune, wont cover under 25's or dont cover american cars. Its not as a daily car, just once or twice a month, 1000 miles or so per annum.
One company even asked if a SeVille was a Mondeo?
So i need a company to insure it for approx. 1000 miles P/A and insure a 22 year old.
Had a good look around and Googled the s
t out of it and came back with not a lot lol
Excuse my cheek in joining and asking for help in the one go but it seemed the best place to ask alot of knowledgeable people at once.
Thanks for any help.

Got a Chevy Camaro and Ford T-Bird myself. As for insurance, you'll need to phone around some specialists, online price comparison sites will be rubbish for you.
An 89 should qualify for classic insurance, but you'll need access to another motor and many have age restrictions.
I'd be tempted to grab a copy of Classic American or Custom Car mag and phone around the insurers advertised. I'd also look at joining a car club, something like the AAC http://www.american-auto-club.co.uk/
Being a member will often get you a discount on insurance and it portrays a good image to the insurer too.
Lastly consider modifying the car (not a lot, just exhaust, wheels, intake or something) Then try and insurer it as a modified car, as stupid as it sounds but this may make it cheaper and more insurable with certain insurers that specialise with modified cars.
Good luck!

I have another car, the Caddy will be used for 1000 miles a year roughly so it will be a second car.
I was hoping it was Classic insurable But the age restriction kills it on alot of them.
Nice choice in cars aswell, You seem to have good taste

I think i'll join that club as well then and see what there is to it, And interesting info on the modified car front.
Great, invaluable info! Thanks again 300bhp/ton.

That's an odd choice by any standards. Beware problems as I think it's an engine-out job for some things.
An odd choice to who, sorry?Iv been using various specialist forums and no-one has mentioned engine out for job unless its a replacement engine?
Cheers for the advice though.
