Whats the value of scrap cars worth nowadays ?? I've heard its quite high, scrap dealers are even going to car auctions to but old bangers.

Is a Vauxhall Omega going to be worth a couple of hundred quid to a scrap dealer ?

Something heavy like an omega is going to be around 90 as scrap metal, maybe less.

someone like motorhog might give you more as they strip it for spares.

Bit more than that I've heard, a mate up Birmingham way reckons £150. Best to shop around a little.

A friend got £120 for a 1994 failed MOT Astra. He would have got £100 if he'd had to collect it.

Last I heard a Vectra fetched £180. Pretty sure he said they offered more if the V5 was present.

Or maybe I didn't hear that last bit.

My old Lexus LS400 went for £400 on Ebay. If I had thought it through beforehand I would have made more by cashing in the tax disc, stripping a few bits off (climate control unit gets good money), and scrapping it.

I'd image there would be a greater demand for scrapped cars due to the scrappage scheme? are the cars still in airfields? I've seen scrappies draining the petrol from all cars and using it for their own cars...

I think these prices may have been over 6 months ago, I remember getting £130 for a stripped escort, but then by the time I was getting rid of the Omega the price had dropped.

I am talking pure scrap value (as steel), as i said you may get more for it from somewhere that breaks them for spares!

Just helped a friend repair her panel damaged MGF by buying an MOT fail in the same spec & colour. Took the folding roof, both wings, both bumpers, bonnet, leather seats, alloys/tyres & exhaust off it, so there wasn't much left, got a local guy to collect it & got £75 as well. So quite a bit, relatively speaking, I would say.

mine was stripped, siezed engine, smashed up, knackered.

It was a proper gyppo run scrap yard and was about 3 months ago if that helps (Kidderminster)

Some of you lot seem to be getting dam good prices for a scrap car especially baring in mind a 1 tonne car is not 1 tonne of steel.

No wonder there are so many dreamers asking £3-500 for MOT failures that are absolute wrecks!
