With all this talk of the royals, it got me thinking about why they never seem to flash when it comes to cars.

London gets flooded with royals from all corners of the globe, and supercars seem to be common amongst a fair few of them.

I did find a photo of William in an Audi A5(and not an S/RS!), hardly extravagant for a man of his means. I'd be gutted if my nan told me what I should or shouldn't be driving. hehe

I'd think anybody joking about that kind of thing would quite rightly be pilloried.

Yeah, I'd read that Will is a bike fan. I guess it's the easiest way to go about without being recognised.

Just found this on MCN said:
Honda Super Blackbird
In 2006 William got a 175mph Blackbird.

Yamaha R1
A week after MCN revealed William’s new Blackbird, in June 2006, the prince was spotted by a reader at a petrol station getting on a Yamaha R1. The prince’s bodyguard was riding the Blackbird instead. William told reader Ian Fitzsimons he thought the Yamaha was “excellent”.

You can see why he'd be a bike fan. Easy to get out in leathers and a helmet and you are just like anyone else. Harder in a car without heavy tints.

the guy can have absolutely any car he wants - why drive around in a boneshaking zonda in london. let's be honest, we'd all rather be in a comfy car in central london. he has no need or desire to show off. he is the prince of wales. so he has what he wants and it's called 'old money'. he'd look a dick in a yellow lambo or something anyway and people on here would say 'why do we have a monarchy when they rub our noses in it'.

I say good on him for being discreet and subtle. there is a thread on his watch too which is an omega seamaster or something.

i like him and his bro - i remember a photo of Harry in a miami blue 205 GTi 1.9 at a mcdonalds drive through with his mate and i thought at that time 'he just wants a laugh and a joke with his mates like the rest of us'.

an audi a5 is a nice car too

They probably leave the more interesting things for playtime, and keep the more mundane stuff for 'business' trips and mooching about.

Rolls Royce lent the 'Scalded cat' prototype to Prince Philip, it was supposed to be for two weeks, it took them two years to get it back off him. The 'Scalded cat' was a MKVI with a triple carb B80 in it.

His current one...

Don't know if he still has this one

When Aston Martin unveiled the bespoilered Vantage Volante, the skirts and body enhancements were not to everybody's liking. One particular customer, HRH, The Prince of Wales obviously wasn't keen on the new additions, and took delivery of a Volante with Vantage performance but a much more subtle look. Whilst the wheel aches were slightly flared and the larger 16 inch wheels and tyres of the Vantage coupe were fitted, otherwise the car looked like a series 1 Volante. During the late 1980's a total of 27 cars were built in this fashion and became know as 'POW' specification cars. Of these 27, 22 were RHD for the UK market, and the other 5 were LHD destined for the US. The US cars are somewhat difficult to 'pin down' as they were not built with a European tune Vantage engine, but do feature the smart Ronal wheels. Each car was slightly different since the POW was not really a model in it's own right.

Prince Andrew has a 2008 Arnage as I remember.

The Prine of Wales still has the DB6 Volante, The V8 Volante POW was auctionned for charity a while back. The Virage Volante which broke down and left himn stranded on the A40 overpass was on loan from the factory

His Dad, Price Philip had one of the "civilian" Taxis years ago, as they were made veyr comfortable and he could get about without anyone giving the car a second glance

I agree with the sentiment regarding William. His "company car" is a helicopter, and there are enough people who would gladly let him try their cars out on a track if he wanted. So somehting nondescript and subtle would be ideal.

Forgive my ignorance... what is a civilian taxi? As in a black cab converted for private use?
