Following on from an earlier thread, I too have a 'soft-roader' dilemna!

I currently have a 4.0 Discovery 2 which keeps going wrong, and uses petrol at about a gallon every 18 miles. So i've narrowed down its replacement to 3 cars all within a 60 mile radius of me.

X5

XC90

Touareg

Which would you recommend?
I have an M3 CSL so the driving fast aspect isn't too important, i'd rather be comfortable. Any ideas why that Touareg appears quite cheap?

Thanks

Alex

I always thought the XC90 was a similar size to the other two... then I parked next to one.

I would go with the VW personally.

Big fan of T'reg here too, have put a few through thier paces and really enjoyed all models. However that looks like an 'alititude' due to that front end style (or it might just be standard kit on the sport) either way - it looks a bit bling as mentioned above.

As to why it's a bit cheap - was that right on the facelift change over?

Can't vouch for the others, sorry.

Would be very tempted to try the Volvo. Have heard too many people moan about running x5s.

I went from Rangie to Toaureg 3 years ago. No reliability issues since, cheap servicing (well, to be truthful it has only done 25,000 miles and isnt due a service yet!)

Only expense are tyres and front pads. Pads were £90 fitted, tyres £570 for 18" winter tyres, £760 for 20" summer tyres.

If the three. Touareg. BMW is awaiting a gearbox going pop. Volvo is very thirsty and more expensive to own.
