Volvo 850R
Saab Aero

Basically anything that most 21 y/o lads wouldn't be seen dead in.

And please do not get acceleration confused with travelling quickly, a well peddled MX5 will comfortably keep with much faster motors when pushing on.

I am 21 with one years no claims and have just been quoted £1300 on a VXR8 so most things should be insurable for £1500.

The only exceptions being TVR's, imprezza STI's and M3's coming in at £1800-2000

Somthing like a focus ST or old shape RS should fit the bill for performance and come in under a grand?

I'm 21 with 3 years no claims and 3 years driving. These are cars which i've looked at that wont break the bank if I buy and insure.

Seat Leon Cupra 1.8T (£850)
Audi A3 1.8T (£800)
Civic Type R EP3 (£1200)
Civic VTI (£800)
Integra Type R DC2 UK (£1000)
Astra Mk4 2L Turbo (£800)

Thats rough quotes for insurance for me. I'm in a good postcode area though.

OP, what is your budget for the actual car?

Most will be able to help you with the car choice, nobody can help you on here with getting insurance for a certain price, as it has so many variables to generate a price.

As has been said before get a car that's nothing like the normal one for your age.

I payed £1300 on a BMW 330 convertible at 21, you will be hard pushed to find a better car.

OK then, I paid £280 FC on the hottest hatch around at 21 with 4 fault claims to my name. Totally misleading though due to inflation, fraud, claims inflation and car insurers now haemorrhaging money.

I don't quite understand where these numbers for insurance come from. £1300 for a VXR8 with a 21 year old driver sounds like something someone dreamt up.

Of course, by all means do it if you got the quote, but let the rest of us know where you get them from. You must keep the car in a bank vault and have a mileage of 25 feet per year or something.

If you can deal with 8 or thereabouts, a Octavia mk1 vRS or Golf GTI would be fast enough and not horrific on insurance.

Let us know how the hunt goes.

To get that premium there will be some "manipulation" of the results to say the least.

My VX220 Turbo is £1000 fully comp for me, mods declared. I'm 20 with two years no claims, although it must be said that it is part of a multicar policy with my daily drive (Corsa). The VX220 N/A was even cheaper on insurance and is well worth a look.

Its would be as an additional car on my existing admiral multi car policy, 6k miles per year, no tracker, good postcode, both parents 50's as named drivers (one driving instructor, one company director) and used for SD&P with myself having no previous claims and 3 points (expired to everybody barring insurance companies)

My daily car (see profile) is sub £500, so is still 2.5x the cost

I've been looking at VAG 1.8T Engined stuff lately, I've found that the Golf GTI is the most expensive.

Purely for me, the order of the 1.8T from highest to lowest

Golf GTI 1.8T
Skoda Octavia 1.8T
SEAT Leon Cupra 1.8T
Audi A3 1.8T

If you fancy a 2.0l Turbo Astra, I suggest you go to the VX forum on here and ask how they are. In fact, I was contemplating on buying one not too long ago and there should be a thread there with quite a lot of info on the Mk4 Astra's on the questions I asked.

Do you understand the exploration, drilling, refinery, distribution & pricing structure for the petrol that you buy?
