Best speed camera detector for under £100.

As per title.

Ive managed to tot up six points from getting two sp30's [One averaging just below one hundred mph in a nsl duel carriageway and the other doing fifty odd in a thirty] both of which i was very lucky not to of got r@ped for.

For the above reason and that sometimes i stray over the limit i now feel that a detector is my next move but have zero knowledge on them so i thought i'd ask the wonder that is PH.



So what do you use or what have you read good things about please let me know.

Also i'm on the look out for a 06 wrx so i may find me going a tad quicker then i do in my derv 406.

2 Points;

1) Speed camera detectors are illegal I believe, so if you get pulled with one on (and working), they'll most likely be harsher on you as you evidently know you're going to speed.

2) Slow down. Save yourself money on fines, insurance and speed camera detectors.

Its not illegal to use 1 in the Uk is it surely? Halfords sells them!

I may be wrong but you won't have got a SP30 for doing a ton on a nsl dual carriageway....would you?

Title sounds like you want to buy a speed camera!

I think the laser or radar detectors are illegal and they jam or block the police speed camera guns. GPS based speed camera detectors aren't illegal, they tell you where fixed cameras are and where police usually hang out with mobile guns.

They also sell blue LED washer sprays and blue headlight bulbs, both of which are illegal also. They can sell them for 'track' or non road usage legitimately, but not for road usage. Usuall says something like that on the packet.

I'm not sure you can get any speed camera for under £100. Maybe one of the camera partnerships will let you have a 2nd hand gasto for that amount, but good luck: there's a lot of scrap metal in those cameras. And where will you put it?

Get a satnav. Most show actual speed and the limit of the road. Mine flashes red if you exceed the speed limit for any length of time. It also flashes up and beeps at static cameras.

Alternative is to slow the fk down and pay attention

How about just slowing down? 50 through a 30 isnt straying over the speed limit, its a delibrate disregard for everyone around you.

I thought a bill got introduced to ban them, but it never actually got through parliament? As far as I know, their usage is still legal in England? You can't use camera jammers (ie things that actively stop the cameras from working) but AFAIK, detectors are allowed.

I used to run a snooper but I don't bother now. Firstly, the detectors are I believe illegal but more importantly I don't actually think they work that well. I've never found one which seems to anyway.

The GPS part can be added to sat nav and so I'd go down that route.

The real key is to think about your speed more. 90MPH on motorways and dual carriageways is generally fine so stick under that and avoid speeding at all in 30s. Since I had the same thing happen (2x 3points, both in 70 limits) I've just stopped driving so quickly and it's fine

I think R360 might be right, they are legal to own and have on ones possesion, but illegal to act on. So if it beeps at you when you're doing, say, 50 in a 30, and you then slow down going past the camera, they could still do you.

Almost impossible to police in my opinion, the camera would have to have some form of intelligence to be able to apply common sense to it - it doesn't know a) that you have slowed down to go through it or b) WHY you slowed down.

I cover a lot of miles in a year circa 25k and so theres times i drift over the limit when it's quiet and dry and safe.

I was just wondering if it would benifit me to obtain one and if they are any good.

For the last few years I have been averaging around 40k a year. I don’t have a speed detector; however I do have a thing on my tom tom sat nav that warns me of camera locations.
I totally understand the need to sometimes want to creep above the limit, i do it too, but to be honest if you are doing that many miles a year I would recommend the following:
Try to get to a track a few times a year and have some fun where it’s safe and go as fast as you can. Get it out of your system; problem is when you need your car for your job you can not afford to loose your license.
Seriously do some track days or red letter days and get it out of your system, in the long run it’s going to be cheaper then loosing your license and potentially your job!

Would a "snooper" type product pick up a chap with a radar gun? If it did, would you be able to drop your speed in time?
