Merc have been teasing the safety tech of the new SLK, including this cutaway drawing.

I had a play around with the brightness and contrast, and you can make out the front end a bit more:

The grille is very SLS-like, but with wider headlights.

I have a feeling that the new SLK will be a bit of a landmark for Merc. Hopefully the awesomeness of the SLS will filter down and make it a proper driver's machine.

I had a sit and play with one of these last week, it looks a lot better than the current model, so much so that a man might even consider driving it! hehe

Why does the glass on headlight units have to go back along the front quarter panel/bonnet by about 2 feet?

I thin Peugeot started this trend a few years ago and now every fker is doing it

Good work. I'm surprised none of the major motoring websites have picked up on that press release talking about the safety features, as the picture gives a very good idea as to what the new SLK will look like.

I preferred the way the current SLK (with sports suspension, I believe) drove over the Z4. The mk1 was rubbish (but then so was the Z3) but the mk2 SLK is really quite a good car.

Agreed, a friend has a mk2 350 and its a nice all round car. Goes well too.
I've got a R171 350. Excellent car, fast and reliable and fun to drive. Z4 was not as good. Boxster was uninvolving.

The new SLK looks like bloated MGB with a Dodge grille glued on the front.

SLK, too "oooh look at me, I have a roadster" and the drive was entirely boring.

Similar aged facelift Z4 was exciting to drive, interior was nowhere near the level of the SLK but I can definitely overlook it because I'm a bloke and I want the car to look 'none-girly' and drive like I want to drive it.

Boxster, if I'm honest, drives better and interior it better than both, but the price reflects that.

SLK - great for women who want a cool interior but don't care about driving.

Z4 - the drivers car.

Boxster - best of both but with a price to match it.

SLK is NOT a drivers car.

My profile has historically been highly populated, but to protect my privacy of late, stuff has been removed.

Rest assured, I have driven all of the cars I talk about extensively and I ended up buying one of them, this car is currently owned by me as one of my 'fleet'.

I have always had a crack at people who don't fill in their profile but I also accept that at sometimes it's more effort than it's worth.

I drove them (Boxster, Z4 and SLK, 350Z as it was then, Alfa Spyder and the like). Money went on an SLK, for me the best car at the time for me. Don't regret it at all, still got it, to my surprise.

You can't really expect credibility if you don't have a profile and make troll-like statements.

All the cars I drove were drivers carssmile

1. I don't think the car that someone owns has any relevance to their view on other cars. I could drive a Mondeo due to family commitments, that doesn't mean I've not driven anything else.

2. I'm hardly a troll and it was hardly a troll like comment.

3. Drivers cars to you, perhaps. I found the SLK seriously lacking in terms of handling and in general 'feel' when pressing on.

I'm entitled to my opinion and I will stick to it since that is how I felt having driven them all.
