PS3 - what's the extra load bit?

Had a blow-out today and had to replace a Pilot Sport (the original shape). The garage I use only had an extra load PS3 so I went for that.

What's the extra load bit? Is this a stiffer tyre?

I believe it's for things like vans so that they are rated to take the extra weight when loaded. More info here Google search

I believe this means that the tyre has a stiffer side wall.

As far as I can recall, they're for heavier/higher performance cars (bigger engines etc) but my memory these days is shocking.
