A quandary... I was trying to do a nice thing. What would you do now?

Long story short...
I witnessed a car drive into another car then f
k off fast.
I leave a note, including my contact details, I state I'll happily provide a statement to the insurance company should the owner decide to go ahead with repairs.
Now... The damage I saw happen was relatively minor, a crack to front of the bumper, just to the left of the plate.
The damage the owner is claiming for is pre-existing damage to the left wing and LHS of the bumper. This was most definitely not caused during the hit-and-run I saw.
So, what would you do now?

Tell them exactly what you saw and that the claimed damage doesn't match that (unless you have any doubt, sure the bumper didn't push back and damage those areas?).
If they are making false claims it hits all the rest of us in the pocket come renewal time.
I stopped by and had a look a few days ago when the insurance company called me, the other damage was definitely not caused by this accident, it is deep scratches to the left wing and bumper, the other car drove squarely into the front of it. If they are making false claims it hits all the rest of us in the pocket come renewal time.
I'll have to tell the truth on the docs but I'm unhappy that the hit-and-runner will get away without penalty. I'm also annoyed that the person I tried to do a favour for has taken the piss, I'm not inclined to let her do that.
