So electric cars then. There was an item about them on the news this evening, along the lines of ‘manufactures racing to get an electric car in their model range’. They then went on about charging points and how it will only cost around £2 to charge up for about a hundred miles worth of travelling. All well and good.
It got me wondering though. At what point will the take up of these vehicles start to impact on the amount of revenue gathered by the government in the form of VED tax. If this happens what tax do you think will be imposed on us to compensate. My guess would be road pricing.

Increased tax on electric vehicles - They will disguise as some sort of tax on battery disposal or similar.

They'll suddenly discover electric vehicles produce a pollutant which will destroy the planet unless we put a tax on it

I love the way they're only just realising how "dangerous" these silent vehicles will be with pedestrians and cyclists getting flattened by vehicles they never heard approaching...

Read about the Chevy Volt today.
  • Electric motors draw up to 120 kW from the battery.
  • Range extender engine (which doesn't charge the battery but just provides electricity for the motors) has an output of 53 kW
Mmmmmmm, less than half power. Sounds a GOOD idea!

A mighty 71hp, before drivetrain losses.
