My mate has a project car that has not been on the road for atleast 10 years. During this time the car has never been taxed or sorn'd.

He needs to updated the V5 now as it's getting near time to go back on the road, and the engine size has changed from original (was a 1.1 now a 1.6) and the body colour has changed.

Will the DVLA want to charge for the last 10 years tax or what will happen here?

Not really, it says nothing about what will happen in these circumstances. Thanks anyway.

If it was already off the road before the SORN regulations came into being, then he'll have no problems from the DVLA.

It tells you when SORN started, which in turn tells you whether DVLA will/can do anything. You say at least 10 years, I guess it would be worth finding out exactly how long since it came in in 1998.

But you're right, next time I won't bother.

No need to be like that, I didnt realise the date of Sorn introduction was important.

I think the last tax ran out in 2001, and he has never had a reminder about it so forgot all about it as it was practicaly abandoned for a good while.

Sounds like you (or your mate) are in breach of SORN then. Whether DVLA choose to do anything about it will be up to them.

I wasn't pissed off at you BTW, just at myself for wasting 30 seconds of my life using google when you could easily have done the same thing. I think I need a beer or something!
