Help needed please!

Apologies if this breaks the rules - however, I need some help.
I've posted a topic in Regional/ London, as that is where it ought to go - however, and this is a big however:- That sub-forum is not very active!
Here's my post: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
Can anyone shed some light on how I can navigate from Sheffield, down the M1, find a decent parking space near an underground station, that will take me directly to Oxford Circus (or any other station on Oxford Street.)
Once again apologies if this does break the rules..

When are you down?
Sheffield, M1 round the M25 to hornchurch which is at the end of the district line.
Train to oxford Street. You can park outside my house if you like.
haha, scott - you're a star man! You know, I could be an internet-stalking-loony.... :0) Cheers though.Sheffield, M1 round the M25 to hornchurch which is at the end of the district line.

Unfortunately, hornchurch is NE London, which is a 3-hr drive (according to google maps) from Sheffield.
Was hoping to stick near the M1.

Just get a train all the way?
What's the reason for wanting to drive most of it and then tube it?
Going to do lots of shopping, which would get in the way on a train. What's the reason for wanting to drive most of it and then tube it?
I smoke (I know......)
I like the comfort of my car, with my music, and not having to whisper due to other peeps listening in.
Anyhows, all sorted now. Cheers for all the help!
John2443 has got it mapped for me

Sheffield to Stanmore.
Parking is £1.
Then tube from stanmore to Bond Street, with a 5-min walk to oxford street.
wooo!

You have Meadowhall and John Lewis in Sheffield. That's 80% of shopping brands covered.
Train to leeds for anything Harvey Nichols, etc or York for anything "niche" given they have a different rage of shops + teh outlet for designer brands/bulk.
Why bother with London?
Meadowhall is rubbish. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to that place. Train to leeds for anything Harvey Nichols, etc or York for anything "niche" given they have a different rage of shops + teh outlet for designer brands/bulk.

It's far too small, tight and cramped. It's filled with kiddies and biddies who love nothing else but to barge into my ankles.
There's far too many "ornaments" in the middle of walk ways, forcing people to walk pretty much, on top of one another.
I dislike that place with a passion.
Anyhows, I managed the day perfectly.
With there being free parking available on sundays for specific Pay & Display, along with single yellow lines - and no congestion fees! I drove straight down the M1 to J1, tomtom navigated me to Oxford street, and I parked right next to selfridges from 10am - 8pm without any problems.
An amazing day.
Westminster puts all other cities to shame, in my opinion.
Very easy to drive in and out, parking, walking around, choice of shops/ dinners/ sight-seeing. Not forgetting Bond Street - wow, just wow. A cufflink shop? Really!?
Plus the german christmas market with its life-size snow-globe for kiddies
