What's your opinion on this?

Would you buy an ex demo with 5k on the clock? In this case, it's a van, but I'm a bit worried that it's 5k of hard, abused miles!

Our last "sensible" car was an ex-demo C30, no problems at all. Just apply the usual due diligence in the purchase.

My last two cars are ex demo, you will get the odd stone chip left untreated, but generally found them ok, tend not to be ranted, due to them using them to sell other vehicles. Or its been run round by the manager going to and from work. Go for it if its a good deal!!

A friend recently bought an Astra VXR with 900 miles on it for £7k off list price, not a bad deal I'd say. If it had been ragged in those 900 miles, the money he saved would more than pay for anything TLC it would need, although it seems to run and drive perfectly.

I have owned several ex-demos over the years, including my current XC90. Never had any issues.

I bought my car ex-demo at 1400 miles, but it actually was an ex-demo as I know the garage i bought it from. If it's got five or ten thousand miles on, lets face it - it's not an ex-demo, more likely ex-rental.

So my answer would be yes, if it's sub 2000 miles and you know the history. If not caveat emptor as you're probably buying ex-Avis or ex-BSM.

Last two Audi's were ex-demos, the first only started to go wrong after 100,000mi, the current one has just had one tiny issue in it's 78,000mi... The Peugeot was run by the dealers Finance bloke before we got it and my Renault was an ex-demo before the people I bought it from got it, if anything, mines probably better than a lot of the other early models!

The van will have done no real work, if its a significant saving then don't worry about it.
