Anyone seen it? It is quite surreal to watch. Can someone link to youtube clip.
Do not watch if drunk/under influence as it will mess with your head. smile
(the myth was that a 928 is more aerodynamic going backwards than forwards)

Yeah yeah. See also the Austin Allegro, Maestro, Corrado, and pretty much every other car that's a sort of streamlined two-box shape. It's not a myth, it's true.

The basic shape definitely looks like it would be better in reverse, but all the tiny aerodynamic appendages will do weird things. Plus I dread to think how much lift it would generate at speed.

I enjoyed that episode!!

It always amuses me how they go through all the effort of de-badging the cars/beer/other products they use...but you can always tell it's a bottle of Corona etc! hehe

Cheers

Was a great episode. However when it was back together it didn't look quite ... right.

Was a bit of a mind mess to see the car going so quick backwards.

Found the link.

I am confused as to why you can see jamie's reverse lights after he has put the car in neutral.

I have seen this, and I have to say whilst a good laugh, I thought that the "experiment" had no rigor at all.

The most informative bit was then they used scale models to measure the drag of the "unnamed" car forwards and backwards. That was pretty much myth busted right there.

The amount of surgery that poor car had to go through to be driven forwards but backwards made the results completely worthless, IMO. Things like the 44% increase in fuel consumption are a testament to that.

Still, entertaining telly, which is more than can be said for 99% of the guff shown.

Yeah, looking at the car after the swap, just the now "open" rear wheel arches (no liners anymore) would probably be a 5% increase in drag......

I guess just putting the real car forwards then backwards in a full scale windtunnel would not have made for such an interesting show!!

One thing I love about Mythbusters is that whatever they do they make you think about the problem yourself. Whether you agree with a particular method being valid or not, even nit-picking their work engages your brain.

Not much else on TV can make me think about random stuff in this way. And they are entertaining at the same time.

(and Kari is cute too!)

So, I guess they don't have wind tunnel's in America.
