745i (circa 2003) - Expensive to upkeep?

Looking for a new car, thinking 330i or 330d saloon for ~£7K which of course are very nice, but there are two 745i's near me for around the same money.
Apart from the obvious fuel penalty (I don't do many miles per year, and have a small runaround for town driving anyway), are they just massively expensive to upkeep?
There is a BMW specialist near me to take care of the serving.
Anyone have experience of ownership? Seems like a hell of a lot of car for the money.
