It will only have an original registration number if it was allocated one when it was new and before a cherished number was put on it.
When you change your plate to another car DVLA will allocate an age related plate to it from the unused ones of that year and from the area where it was first registered.

What is the problem you have?

When you bought the car were you the first owner and the first number allocated was the one you owned? If so then the car does not have an original number because the original number is the one that is on it now.

If you bought the car and it was 'new to you' with a cherished number on it then if you look at the service documents it will have the original mark there and you should have received the original plates from whoever sold you the car if they are different to the number on the car now.
DVLA do not re-assign original plates when a car changes to a cherished number and will always belong to the car on which they were first assigned to.

Car was bought by my dad new from a dealer (1st owner)then before he got it his private plate went on it, was a W reg at the time but no documents or service stuff has the original reg on it, i was left the car but now need the origianl reg for legal stuff and also to take the plate off the car at some point.
Just thought there might have been a quick way to do this online with vin number or on the DVLA website.

Cheers

There is no original reg if your dad's number was the first number on it.
You will have to get the number off your Dad's car by either transferring it to another car or putting it on retention. The DVLA will then tell you what the replacement number plate is, they give you a cert with it on and you get the plates made up.
