Anybody In The Insurance Buisness?
Discussion
I've been trying to sort my car insurance, spent 2hrs on the phone last.
The renewal price is going up due a claim against me in August 2008.
Now I remeber being on holiday in August 2008 & some numpty running down the side of my car with his bumber marking the paint whilst I was stood by the car, but refusing to hand over his details, so I called my insurance company immediately, told them what had happened & said that if the mark polished out I'll not be claiming.
The mark did polish out, so I called my insurance company & informed them that there would be no claim made.
So why are my current insurers stinging me £50 for a claim I never made?
They told me the claim was through Bishopsgate insurance (the other parties insurers apparently), who I belive merged with somebody else to form Fortis, AKA Swinton, but when I call them they simply say "there is nothing we can do to help"

Unfortunately its down to the fact that incident occured rather than whether you claimed or not, as insurers rate on the risk rather than the cost of the claim.
Just because you didn't claim dosn't mean the accident didn't happen.
Although its too late now its worth trying to polish it out 1st before notifying.
Its unlikely that you can get the incident removed from the insurance database.

I didn't happen to have my rotary polisher & compounds on me at the time & they always say to inform the insurers immediately. Its unlikely that you can get the incident removed from the insurance database.

Ah well, looks like another win for the rip off merchants.

I know its hitting you for £50 this year but most insurers only rate for 3 years so it shouldn't have an affect at next years renewal.
