I've noticed on my commute to work along the M1 that about 90% of cars are under 5 years old, the older ones tend to be sporty/prestige model, and most of the modern cars are in fact BMW/Audi/Merc.

Puts into perspective what the Conservative advisor said last week....

By commuting on a motorway you're exposed to a pretty select demographic. Many cars will be comapany cars, hence the age. Also, poor people travel less far for both work and leisure.

Edit to add I think he was spot on. It was a joke and a sad reflection of the reactionist nature of British society that someone so experienced walked for such a marginal comment.
