With the snow forecast for this weekend in my area, and thinking of last winter when I had the benefit of 4WD, I think I should get some winter tyres.
I've got either a 3 series or a Mini to put them on, so I was thinking get a pair and put them on the FWD Mini.
I was really expecting some very narrow (say 135 section?) tyres with nobbly tread, but can't seem to see these anywhere. All the 'winter' tyres look like normal-ish tyres. I don't mind getting a set of cheap steel rims from the scrappy to run for a couple of months.
I'm only ever bothered about using these tyres when it has snowed, so I could almost have studded tyres.
Suggestions on a postcard please...

Tell me, do people really get up for work, look out the window and think 'oh s
t, it's snowed, I;d better change all four wheels on my car before I go to work'?
Mind you, fair play to the tyre companies, judging by the number of people on Pistonheads worrying about it the campaign has worked.

Well if you'd read my thread, I pointed out I would only change 2 wheels. And since I track a Caterham and am forever changing the wheels on that, I've got a wheel nut gun so can change two wheels in 10 minutes. Not a big deal to be honest...Tell me, do people really get up for work, look out the window and think 'oh s

Fair enough, I 'track' my TVR but I honestly couldn't be bothered with all the hassle of getting the trolley jack out, getting cold, wet and dirty. Wasting half an hour and then changing into my suit to go to the office. But each to their own. My serious advice is that I've not even dreamed about it for 38 years of motoring so I wouldn't waste my money. Going back further I remember those "Town & Country" tyres people had on things like Ford Pops and stuff but my dad never suffered from not having a set in the garage and he had to be at work by 7:30am in all weather.
