Car suggestions for the woman.

So the woman wants to go and look for a replacement for her 1.7 diesel astra sportshatch today, just a scoping misssion to see what she likes. She had her heart set on a volvo c30 r design however i have been trying to open her eyes to other stufff.

Her basic criteria are - hatchback to accomodate the dog, a nice quality interior maybe with leather,nice to look at with good build quality, a modicum of poke so say maybe 100 plus bhp, not fussed if petrol or diesel, it has to be new ( her explicit wish,not mine) budjet maybe upto about 16-17k max.

The things on my list for her to have a look at were -
mini - she says she hates them
audi A1 - think she quite likes them
audi a3 - lower spec one?
vw polo
skoda fabia vrs - i think she is hung up on the skoda thing
ibiza fr
fiesta maybe - a possibility but never really looked at one before
alfa mito
alfa giuletta - maybe a bit pricey.


Anyone got any other suggestions??

I'd have a look at them all. Most modern cars have dire visibility and these days, I would err towards the one I could see out of in all directions as they tend to be much of a muchness. Not keen on the stupid happy face rear lights of the Volvo myself....they make me unhappy.

How big's the dog?

The Mito is a really good car but a Great Dane won't thank you for being slotted in the back.

Fiesta pretty good these days, certainly worth a look.

If you can live with the badge, the vRS is great - although probably not the best for woof.

the dog is a black labrador, he is a bit of a genetic freak like, weighs about 23kg and is very small for a lab.

I bought my little lady one of these back in March:



1.5 DCi, room in the boot for our Border Collie, 45-50mpg and a decent turn of speed.
Sounds like a tractor though, but generally a decent little motor - within budget too.

they look ok, maybe a bit similar to my scirocco, and to be honest if i ended up at a renault dealer i would point her in the direction of a clio 200 or a discounted laguna coupe whic i think are a great looking car.

I still think you're being a bit cruel to the dog. Especially if you're considering a Mini!

I think you need to be looking more Focus sized than Fiesta personally. Though getting a new car for £16-17K then becomes a bit tricky.

Ah, so she has taste and 20-20 vision as well.

the c30 is a decent car by all accounts, not the greatest in way of handling, but would seem to tick all the boxes. I'd support the purchase in return for a quiet life

1 series, or those 2 nissan crossovers would be on most women's lists as well
