Reading this:

has me worried that Lotus is going to do its self in. Last months TopGear mag had a feature with 4? new models in the works. Is this the same old story of a British manufacturer getting ambitious to the point of self destruction? I think they should stick to what they know and keep it simple.

I'm sure this has been done to death.... but,

whilst I'm uneasy with Lotus leaving behind its traditional philiosphies and going chasing Porsche and Aston Martin from a seemingly under-prepared base, the stark fact is that Lotus as it is today hasn't made a profit in 10 years and cannot continue to do so. So something has to be done.... this seems to be widely accepted as their last chance.

Lotus are the kings of their niche, lightweight sportscars that people can live with. If they can't make a profit at that, chasing the likes of Porsche is going to kill them.

I thought the standard answer to this was MX5.

As said I think this is the last ditch effort to start turning a profit.

Turns out even the BBC doesn't know the difference between a principle and a principal.
