Winter Car ...... Summer Car......
Discussion
I wonder if anybody has any experience of this and can offer advice on how best to do it?
Basically I want to run one car for the 6 summer(ish) months and then run one car for the 6 Winter months .......
I currently have 2 cars a Boxster S and a Pug 306 runabout and insure and tax both of them for the full 12 months .....weekday runabout and weekend fun not too unusual i'm sure ......
However I have recently purchased a Subaru Impreza (just 'cos I always wanted one) and it's really not pratical to swap the Pug for the Subaru .... to insure and tax both the Porsche and the Subaru for 12 month is just more than I can stomach.... (I have 9 years no claims on the porsche and 4 on the Pug so a not really enough to get a decent price on the Subaru yet ...yes for all those that didn't know you need 2 lots of no clims to run 2 cars with most companies)
So my thoughts were sell the Pug ....never rally liked it anyway.... Keep the subaru for the winter and the porsche for the summer..... seems semi practical as long as the sun doesnt shine in the winter and I dont need to carry more than 2 people in the summer ;-)
What would make this viable is get one 12month insurance policy say on the Subaru along with 6 months tax .....then when the 6 months is up SORN the Subaru and store it in the garage, transfer the insurance to the Porsche (there'll be a fee of some kind but I'm hoping not too much .... there currently about the same cost to insure each) tax the porsche for six months ....... then wehn the 6 months is up swap them back again etc etc over and over
So I can't be the first to think of this has any body else done it? ...... any advice on insurance companies that are friendly to this or best ways to get them to do it? Am I likely to be able to do this with an insurance company that will give a competative quote? (the quotes vary wildy for these two cars as it is) ..... can I just SORN, Tax, SORN, Tax over and over?
Cheers

Remember as well that your unused car will be uninsured during this time. Just because it's off the road doesn't stop someone steeling/vandalising it or the garage burning down.
I would use the most no claims on the Scooby and set the Porsche up with a limited mileage policy keeping both on road throughout the year. Means you always have access to the one you want too.
