I have a Smart,, a video camera and an empty car park 3 inches deep in snow. We all know what needs to be done but an orange flashy light is disagreeing. Anybody know how to banish this light?

take the TC fuse out?
or is it like most Merc stuff where if you hold the t/c button for 10 seconds it goes out (will re-engage about 35mph IIRC)

I had a 700cc For2 last year and went out to play in the snow only to find the traction control was so intrusive I actually got stuck in the middle of my own donut!

I had dropped the girlfriend off at the station, must have been a good 5" of snow and no one had been out driving in our area, so much so that the members car park in front of the station was empty and still virgin snow, ideal opportunity for donuts, or so I thought until it got stuck due traction control.

No button to switch it off.

Try the ABS/Traction fuse that may do it?

Apparently if you switch it off then hold down both the buttons on the dash cowling then start it up whilst still holding them it disables the TC. I have never tried so this may just be internet folklore.

Yes, it is possible to disable it on any 600 or 700cc smart by shorting certain pins in the OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) port, which is located either next to the steering wheel on the right, or under the steering column on the ZEE unit.

Alternatively, you can buy a plug to do it for you: http://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php?id=682.

Well, I'll give this a whirl. Don't fancy messing around with fuses or OBD's.

On a mid-late 90's Merc, you short pins 1 and 6 on the round diagnostic plug, which pulls the driver aids bus to earth. Cancels out bas/abs/asr without putting the car in limp mode.
Sorry, don't know about the FourTwo though...
