Happiness over GDP

Got a question arising from BBC world. They have just reported that Bhutan ( that well known country) replaced the generally accepted GDP index with a happiness index. My question is would you rather be happy with your life and possessions or have the possessions take preference over happiness? I mean do your material possessions take preference. I know a lot of people over here who have less than me and yet seem perfectly content, owe nothing to anyone and have a happy life among their peers. Over to you lot!!!
