FFS, what is it with these people??
I'd have thought with the weather we are currently experiancing that even the most dimwitted council estate's 'yoouth of today' in there "bangin" Corsa B's would realise to leave some amount of room between them and the car in front. But obviously not!

Today i've had this on at least 3 different occasions. One of which being on the fking dual carridgeway.
Came out of my village, road was 30mph, so was driving between 25-30mph, lifiting off slightly for the corners. Yet i had a Corsa B sat right up my arse. Then on the dual carridgeway I checked my mirrors as i was coming down the sliproad, saw that a saab was slowing down to let me out because there was something overtaking him so could'nt move over. I thought fair enough this guy seems to be a decent driver. How wrong was I! mad As soon as I pull into lane 1, I accelerate up to 70mph and stay there due to it being clear for a while so no need to overtake and move out any time soon. All I can see at this point in my mirrors is this Saab getting closer and closer to my backend so im now expecting to see his indicator come on and him move out into lane 2. Does this happen? No! He stays right where he is, sat right up my arse at 70mph with a clear Lane 2. I lifted off slightly to about 65mph just to try and encourage him to move over and overtake and he just slowed down as well. And came back up to 70 when i did. Eventually I pull off at my junction and he carries on. I am now throwing a lot of verbal abuse at my steering wheel. The 3rd time was when I was coming over to Beaumaris from Menai Bridge. If anybody knows the road it's a very horrible windy road. ( http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&am... <--- For the benefit of thoose who dont know the road.) Coming along here between 30-35mph (40mph limit) had a typical White transit sat up my arse all the way around the bends mad

What is with these people? Can they not get it into the stupid thick little heads that if something happens and I have to stop quickly the only place there going is into the back of me? How do these people pass there driving tests?

What happens insurance wise with the bad weather and if someone comes into the back of me? Who gets blamed for liability etc? What happens to my NCB?

Anyway rant over (probably not the best by PH standards but needed to get it off my chest before i bite someones head off from being so wound up).

Speed up.

People who insist on driving 5 - 10mph below the speed limit get right on my goat.

I was driving at the speed limits. I was just slowing down for the corners as there was lots of Ice about.

Was the ice only there for you? As the others seemed quite capable of driving at normal speeds round the bends.

Ignore Loon - he's a troll.

What's up with people is modern cars make them think they're invincible, and offer so little feedback people can't 'feel' the difference between a normal road and a slippy road anymore (when there was no PAS or only old-style hydraulic, you COULD tell - even numpties could tell).

Add in that most people don't think about their driving and therefore probably don't learn even when they have an accident, and the best bet is to get out of their way if possible.

So im now the one at fault for trying to drive suitable to the conditions? Is that what your trying to say?

No, I'm not. Just because I have a different opinion doesn't make me a troll.

I fail to see how the OP is struggling to make it round bends when driving 5 - 10mph slower than other road users (some of this is on the straights according to his original rant), when it's clear that other driver are clearly capable of getting round them.

I get frustrated when driving and coming up against the "dawdlers" who insist on driving below the speed limit. Today was a classic example where drivers are clearly petrified in their cars, as they think the whole road is covered in sheet ice, when there's no more than a hard frost.

I never said i was below the speed limit on the straights, just when i had this saab right up my arse at 70mph when lane 2 was completly clear I lifted off very slightly to try and encourage him to move over.

I was not dawdling by any means. But this is my first winter on the roads so I have no idea what to expect. So blame me for being slighlty on the cautious side.

I am looking forward to going down the A5 up towards the mountains with a few friends as we always do when it snows so I can have a play in the empty car parks and get a feel for what its like having next to no traction.

I actually agree with you.
There was a young girl last night in a little fiat doing 5 mph (really) over the icy road. Her windows were misted up and all traffic was overtaking her. She probably felt like she was safe, when in fact she was dangerous and should get the fking bus.

There's a bit of difference between that and the OP being a bit cautious. What's he supposed to do, drive as fast as possible until he crashes, and then say "so that's where the limit is"?

Stop being so sensitive. You were driving slower than everyone else, who seemed to be capable of driving quicker without disappearing into the nearest hedge in a ball of flames. As such, you weren't necessarily "driving suitable to the conditions", you were driving slower than necessary.

As this is your first winter, then you need some practice on your driving, rather than ranting about those around you. Take some ownership of your own development as a driver and you'll improve.

Hey Loon, how do you know the Corsa wouldn't have ploughed off on a bend if the OP hadn't kept his speed down for him?! biggrin

Not just me though, it was only thoose 3 people who were sat up my arse. Everybody else seemed to be a reasonable distance behind.

biggrin

I don't, maybe the OP should let the next tailgater past, then take a photo of it in flames in the nearest hedge (with custard of course) to prove he was right. I'll eat some humble pie then, with custard if neededbiggrin

This is pretty much why i dont bother posting much on Piston heads, too many trolls turning things around against the OP no matter what the subject is.

Tail gating is clearly wrong but the OP is made out to be the one who cant drive. what is wrong with driving to the road conditions? If the vehicle following thinks it is too slow they can always overtake, why tail gate?

First off a forum is a place where opinions are shared, there is no compulsion on the opinions to all be the same.

Secondly, there isn’t always an opportunity to overtake; the Saab should’ve done in the second example, the other two drivers may have been stuck behind the OP.

The OPs driving and attitude need some education – he admits to swearing into his steering wheel, slowing down to “encourage” someone to overtake then speeding up again when they didn’t do so immediately.

Roads are full of idiots, but driving around in his first winter, believing himself to be better than those around is naive in the extreme. Look at his comments below, they all suggest he drives 5 -10mh below the speed limit and then slows down for corners.

Finally, driving to the road conditions is highly subjective, as everyone has a different opinion of what those road conditions are. For example, I drive a RWD car, that likes to step out at the first opportunity, yet had no problem today driving a road on the Moors well in excess of the 50mph limit (used to be an NSL) whereas others were struggling to break 20mph. There is no justifiable reason for driving so slowly and they become just as big a liability as people who bomb along “ way too fast for the road conditions” (I include myself in that list, yet I didn’t crash, I never lost control, I didn’t even lose traction at any point),

I've never understood this, why would you want to give someone that's pissing you off a free screen wash?

I'll try and remember this when my washer nozzles freeze up, drive up someone's arse & use theirs.

People driving too slow also annoys me but I still keep my distance. There is no excuse for tailgaiting at all, either overtake or just accept that you're going to be delayed by a few minutes.
