Why don't people dip to sidelights when parked anymore?

Have always noticed this but it's become more noticeable now with the dark evenings. Why are people so ignorant to other road users that they can't just turn their lights off to make it clear that they are actually parked!? It's even worse when parked on the wrong side of the road and facing you with bright fk off xenons.

I know taxi drivers scum are the worst for this but I bet there are a few on here who are guilty! Non?!

Because 99% of drivers are morons with no roadcraft these days.

I suspect autolights is the answer to your question. Most people do not seem to realise that you are allowed to move the switch as well.

Is it becuse they only reach for the light switch to stick on their foglights? Or that they believe their auto lights take care of everything?

Does my nut. I find stopping and flicking the full beams on helps.

There was a car parked on the left side of the road with his headlights on just before a blind bend in the middle of the night. I couldn't see safely past it; so I put my hazard lights on, got out to see the driver was about three hundred Yards away chatting some bint up on her doorstep.

"I'll be there in a minute" he shouted.

Five minutes later I opened the door put his hazard lights on turned his headlights to a dim-dip setting. I made sure his car was locked and secure before I left. Did I mention his engine was running? Ooops. wink

Sadly true.

I did it instinctively today when parked waiting for the other half today, even though I was parked behind another car and couldn't blind anyone.

I find driving into the door that the passenger of said vehicle is getting out of, then explaining that you couldn't see the open door because you were being dazzled by their fk off bright xenons gets the message across. It all comes down to the general lack of manners & courtesy which some of us were brought up with.

I find sticking the full beam on for a few seconds tends to help "remind" them that when parked they need to dip the lights....

I was going to post that it's because nobody is taught to drive properly anymore, but it looks like I have been beaten to it.

I have then seem them put their lights on full as well as if to say I have brighter lights than you, I guess getting out with a claw hammer and turning their lights off is the next step

I find applying full beam, if this doesnt work, stopping about 3 feet from their bumper flashing and applying full beam works well!

Certainly in my top 10 bad driving hates!

Also, IIRC it's illegal to park on the opposite side of the road at night? (probably wrong about that, but hey!)

Does anyone realise that road rage is sometimes the only option?
