Is it possible, other than a HPI check, to find a vin number from a reg number?
I am looking at a Merc MP53PGX and I could tell from the VIN if it has the dreaded Valco radiator or not.

Yes, but that VRN does not come up on the DVLA database. Are you sure that it's correct?

Whatever else is going on, that car isn't insured. I think it's got false plates.

That's a good reason for it not to have insurance... I retract my false plates comment smile

I do yes. Apparently they leak fluid into the auto box and bugger it up

First time I tried I copied and pasted the VRN. Just typed it in (on Experian) and it's still not coming up. Very odd.

Do you mind me asking which database you're using?

All I would say is it doesnt appear to have a valeo rad. The replacement rad is still £450 retail inc vat.
