Can I drive a written Off Vehicle declared by TP Insurer
Discussion
My car got hit recently (they have admited liability), bad dent to rear door, but looks like insurers are going to write it off as repair cost is about same as value (approx £1k).
I would like to buy it back for a nominal amount (I have heard they nornally charge 20% of value?), and carry on driving it (it runs great and better the devil you know), and just pocket the money as compensation for its loss of value; having a dented door doesn't bother me at all.
However I am somewhat confused as to what I need to do to legally carry on driving it if I do this? I have read about VIC checks, does it need that if its already registered to me and taxed? Do I have to have it repaired and inspected / mot before I can drive it? Basically I want to at least just drive it up to the time the MOT and tax runs out in 6 months. I dont want to pay to get it repaired, not worth it. Will my insurance carry on or will I have to reinsure it?
Any experinces appreciated!
Thanks,
