Just filling out my V5C/2 after buying a 57 plate MX-5 at the weekend and I've noticed that the taxation class is 'disabled'.

I presume that this means that the car was leased previously through the motability scheme? Also, I also presume now that the car has been re-taxed it will revert back to it's standard category?

And yes, I was as surprised as you no doubt are that an MX-5 can be classed as suitable transport..

My Smart car was disabled class. Simply visited local DVLA office, gave in V5 plus road tax fee and received tax disc with new V5 though the post.

Not sure what that form that is, but you won't be able to re-tax a disabled car without being disabled. You'll need to visit a DVLA office (not a Post Office) and change the classsification of the car, only tan can you tax it. Our family bus is a former Motability car and it's we had to do.

Doesn't necessarily mean that it was a motability vehicle.

You can tax a vehicle as disabled if it is used only for the benefit of a blue badge holder (registered disabled). This doesn't have to be the driver - Ie. A mum taking her disbabled child to hospital or wherever.

Any car can be classed as disabled. If the person gets Road tax through the Mobility Benefit, then that can apply to any car, that they use as their main transport.

Doesn't mean it is from the mobility scheme.

PS, Lets not get into the the Motability scheme again.

There have been loads of MX5s on Motability recently together with quite a few RX8s too! Just send or take in your V5 to DVLA and they will sort it for you.

The V5C/2 is the 'new keeper' form that we all send away when we buy a new vehicle.

The car has already been taxed by the garage before I picked up so I presume it has been done correctly.

Hopefully this won't cause me a hassle otherwise I'll have to be having a whinge to the garage!
