It seems to be in my home town of Wilmslow !

Was walking to a party the other night, quiet but pressed the button, red light comes on as a Polo, being driven quickly hoves into view, no attempt to slow down whatsover, as normal me and the wife do not rely on the lights being in our favour as you can be in the right and still smeared across the road surface, it was quite shocking really, driven, youngish male probably at 50/60 mph in a thirty, he saw the light, it had been red for 3 or 4 seconds, I really wish a Police car had been coming the other way.

Then Sunday morning, nip to Sainsburys, about to turn right, traffic oncoming should be stopped due to red light and some older chap in a Merc decides that as nobody is actually waiting that the red did not apply, I start to make my turn thinking he was stopping as it had been red for a while but had to abort, he brakes and give me an evil look.

Is this some general change, people just deciding not to stop or two isolated incidents, worries me as my kids walk round and use crossings (on pain of death) and I am trying to drum it inot them now that people may not stop and not to step out just because its gone green, same as crossing roads coming off a roundabout, as generally abou 50 percent of drivers do not indicate.

Its a sorry state of affairs.

Not as far as i know, but that doesnt surprise me. I think that due to a large number of people coming to this country from abroad, their traffic lights must be different, and red means go for it. Either that, or i missed a communique from the dvla which stated that if you feel like it, fk it, just go for it, we dont mind. It's exactly the same here in doncaster, if not worse

Agree with that. On the way in today had cyclists go in between pedestrians on a crossing, rather than wait 5s for them to get across.

May not have helped. I was nearly run over by a panda car on a zebra crossing a few years ago. No blues and twos. Driver just bimbling along oblivious.

That goes both ways though, I get people cross the road in front of me all the time, traffic lights or no traffic lights, and what really gets my goat is wkers who cross the road half way, preventing me from chaning lanes or avoiding potholes, assuming i will carry on in a straight line.

As a cyclist in London who does follow the rules, that sort of behaviour knobs me off good and proper. The only cyclists that drivers remember are the tts who RLJ/ride between peds on xings/ride like tts. Being tarred with that brush is not what I want.

A few years back I was stopped at a pelican crossing, red light showing and pedestrian starting to cross.

Guy in VR6 comes up behind me and OVERTAKES, just misses person crossing.

Unfortunately not a new thing.

Not so long ago was driving to the garage with BMW Assist following after breaking down. We're stopped at a pedestrian crossing and a women was about to step out when an older bloke in his retirement sails through the red light without the slightest knowledge of what he's done. Was a close call for the women crossing, enough that the BMW Assist bloke asked if I'd seen it when we got to the garage!
Never just walk without looking - never assume your green light means everyone else has stopped!

I've lost count of the number of times that I've stopped at a crossing for somebody and the person coming the other way has just sailed on through.

I actually think the sheer number of traffic lights around now makes people more likely to "chance it" because hoofing it through can actually make a reasonable difference to your commuting time.
