Hello,

My car fogs up easily in the winter, it had a hole in the floor (now welded up) which made the carpets damp, but as its in use daily i havent got the tine to whip the carpets out to dry them. So, I've been thinking of getting a dehumidifier, does anyone have any recommendations/further suggestions?

Thank you!

It does work but some of the house type are a bit big. For best results put the car in a garage. Make sure you close the air vents!

the air con is a brilliant dehumidifier.

and by the way, sounds like your heater matrix is leaking.

My car has no air-conditioning! The heater matrix is all fine and dandy, the source of the damp carpets are a grommet not being in place in the footwell, which it now is, and the resulting hole is welded too! Unfortunately I don't have access to a garage either...

That link posted is more like it, I've seen similar which are oven activated... Have you used them?

Thanks

I had this problem with my MX-5 and after swearing loudly every time the weather got even slightly cold, humid I decided to try a stupid and pointless sounding idea posted on pistonheads:

Take a margarine/butter tub, fill it with clean cat litter, put the lid of and duct tape it close, cut lots of holes in the top and force the hole abomination into an old hole-filled sock that best matches the interior of your car and put it somewhere out of sight in the car.

This idea sounded frankly stupid but I haven't had any problems since. smile

Yes, I have one in my convertible which leaks from around the window frames. As a result, the carpets get damp which causes horrendous condensation. But stick a bag of this on the dash and it simply doesn't mist.

The bags do max-out after a few weeks, then you simply put them on the radiator for a few days to dry them out again. I have heard that you can microwave them too, but I don't have a microwave to test that theory!

I just dried out a car... I bought this (cheapest way of getting hold of proper silica gel in required quantities):

And filled some old socks with it - tied the ends with string, and threw them in. Take them out every few days and keep them on the radiator for a few hours to dry them out. Seems to have worked a treat!

I've got one of those ones from Frost in my ATR as it seems to suffer a bit from misting.

I just tucked it under the passenger seat and it seems to have done the trick.

It needs to be put in a low oven or left on a radiator for a few hours every few months to re-generate apparently.
