mobile phone dyno iphone?
Discussion
Hi,
I have done several searches becuase I think this should have been covered but if it has, I can't find it.
I'm due a new phone.
I like the idea of knowing power fingures for my car, particularly repeatable and comparable ones so I can tinker with something and see what differnce it makes. It would need to be sensitive enough to pick-up small changes. My competition car has less than 100 bhp so a 5% power gain might be difficult to register.
In a way it wouldn't matter if the app was not accurte compared to a real dyno as long as it was consistant. I realise that lots of factors will impact power, such as weather, but some changes would be able to be done very quickly. I could do a run, alter the timing and do another run within 5 minutes, thus keeping other factors as similar as possible. For this reason some way of comparing power at differnt points in te rev range and producing the sort of graph you'd get from a real dyno, would be cool but I can't see how it could do this. I assume they use in gear acceleration so that differnces in launch are not a factor.
It would also be useful to measure acceleration over short distances (20m?) to practice / experiment with starts.
I can choose the phone best able to run the app as I have no real interest in phones anyway. Any thoughts?
