Best bet is have a drive and perhaps have a read on the likes of VXR online. I suspect the "understeer" related comments are directly linked to Clarkson's "full lock, full throttle" review of a few years back. Then again, if you don't drive it like you've stolen it. you shouldn't have any issues?
Got a mate who previously owned a Corsa VXR and now has an Astra VXR Nurburgring.
Corsa was a nice car, 18in wheels made the ride crashy. Engine provided plenty of grunt but theres an issue with piston no 4 melting. AFAIK its mainly isolated to cars that run re-maps and standard grade unleaded fuel (they run cast internals rather than forged). Recaro CS seats are a nice touch as they come standard. Electric powered steering is something I wasn't too keen on as its a little light.
Astra Nurburgring sounds very raw with the remus exhaust. The 18in wheels create a ride which is a lot better than the corsa. its a good balance for the ride quality. Its becomes addictive to nail the throttle to hear the amazing noise from the exhaust (think along the lines of an impreza sound), the rawness of the car does suit its character, with regards to understeer take a test drive but as long as you remember its not a playstation game where you can keep you foot on the gas at all times you should be fine.

Understeer ? well, uh yeah - its a FWD car. Its no worse than any other FWD though, traction is good.
Handling is far from bad but for around £300 on springs and a rear anti roll bar it can be significantly improved.
Its got a good torque curve and feels really responsive, much more so than the competition.
If I'm honest the worst part of the car is the throttle mapping, I find the pedal way too sensitive in the stock car, this can be sorted with a good remap (equally can be made worse with a crap one!).
Go drive one.
There are a few being used as track day weapons and they certainly don't embarrass themselves - Look for Aussies car in the readers section here and also here: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=TheVxRacer#gri... Bo took part in time attack for the first time this year and won his class. This was after he was invited to an event in 2009 and surprised a few evo drivers
Have a look over at vxronline, if you see a potential purchase its worth asking if its a known car.
