Anyone here settle an argument?

Not talking super low volume homologation specials. Genuine walk in off the high street buyable hot hatch. What was the first with 200bhp?

Friend reckons it was Escort Cosworth.

Was RS Focus first with 300bhp?

Nissan Pulsar got that in 1990 or so.
I think the Evo 1 was around that time also.
Celica Gt4 was 90 was it not? maybe before.... not entirely sure. Reckon it would be the ST165 version.

Although im pretty sure there may be a few before that.

Not sure the Sierra falls into hot hatch.... i think that falls into the same catagory as Supra's Nissan 300zx etc etc.

What would you call them.... muscle cars maybe.

Rover 220 GSi/Gti Turbo didn't quite make it with just a smidge under 200bhp ( 197ish ) but it was certainly one of the most rapid of its time

I would class Sierras and Celicas (and Calibras etc) in a class above.

Just saw Delta Integrale 16v at 200bhp (1989).

How can a Sierra not be a hatch...? 3 doors, hatchback, smaller than a Focus. confused

Calibra is a coupé as is the Celica...

Are Supra, 300Zx, Celica, Mitsubishi GTO also hot hatches in that case?

Ok, but bizarre. It's much lower, much narrower and much lighter than a Focus. Only a few cm longer too. Dies that make the Ficus an SUV...? hehe

If the Sierra counts as a hot-hatch because it has a hatchback, I'm calling the Porsche 928 biggrin

No. Coupés. They were sold as such as well.

The Sierra is the same floorpan as the Escort RS so I don't see how one qualifies and the other doesn't...!!! Sierra is also lower, narrower and lighter than the Escort...!!!
