Hi Guys,

I noticed a while ago that Audi were/are offering full LED headlights on the R8, from what I remember it was an expensive option; a few £k. I'm just curious has anybody seen these in action? How do they compare to HID's etc.? I'm guessing that these will start to become mainstream soon enough just as HID's did.

I've never used them (that I know of) but I think Mercedes (and probably others) have been using these for some time, and I've not read anything bad about them.

I'm looking forward to these becoming mainstream. I've already got several LED torches which each put out more light than regular headlights (and they didn't cost thousands!) so I reckon it won't be too long.

I don't know about the R8 but I've read some theory on the web. What I've read has generally said LED has the potential to be brighter (more lumins) than hologen but not as much as HIDs.

Use low power, although expensive to make.

Big heat issues at back of unit. And no heat on lens, so bad in cold snowy or frosty conditions to clear the lights.
