Some low life pr*ck slashed the roof of my wifes convertible Mini Cooper S today below the rear window in order to gain access to the (empty!) boot!!

Does anyone know if this can be repaired?? The dealer has quoted me £2050 for a new roof (obviously going to be an insurance claim if it comes to that).

Seriously pissed off - the car is/was mint and I was looking to put it up for sale tomorrow!!

is there a seperate section for the rear window? some cars can replace just that part.

if not then it probably will be a new roof job.

had my old car done but they went straight for the middle of the roof, new lining webbing, job lot. very peeved

hmm, an insurance claim for 2k is a bit of an issue - what's the excess? your premium will be higher for the next 5 years?

can you get it professionally repaired?

Disgusted for you.

I know someone in the South Cheshire area who may be able to repair.
He repaired my TVR Chimaera roof and top job.
Ex RR man etc but I guess no matter how good he is, unless you go for a new roof on insurance then your value is effected.
New roof, although costing you time and maybe no-claims, would be a positive selling point.

Same thing happened to my friends mini cooper, she took it too http://www.carhood.com/ based over in Chessington in surrey (not sure if thats near you) but they did a fantastic job, hood looks exactly the same, quick service and about half the price the mini dealership quoted!

Can be repaired but I'd get it replaced. It'll take chunks out of the resale value otherwise.

Thanks for the prompt replies folks - much appreciated.

Carhood.com (thank you Lauren) looks like a very good bet - a new roof from them is £500 (not sure if that's fitted), but either way the policy excess isn't far off of that figure, so could be a way of avoiding making a claim (would also save me having to deal with the numpties at the insurance company, which is only ever a real pain!)

A decent trimmer will be able to repair the hood, the question is whether or not you want to repair the hood and take a hit on future value, or spend the same sort of money having a replacement fitted . . . . . . .either way it's a stty thing to have happened

Looks like a new roof is my only real option - I've just spent a fair bit having the interior and exterior tidied up, as well as the alloys refurbished, so it seems silly having the roof only repaired, and thus not being in "perfect condition" like the rest of the car.

Going to get it fixed and advertised asap.

Just hope the person who did this slips on some ice and lands on their knife.
