Ok so i'm a bit bored. Flicking through the classifieds looking for cheap and fun motoring. I came across this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2254972.htm. I have had a standard one of these but it was an absolute lemon. However this one seems well done with lots of uprated parts. Seems a good/interesting buy.

Why would you do all that work only to sell it a month later? I bet he discovered something horrible in the process and thats why smile

Hmm maybe, but I guess even with a ton of mods its never going to be worth much anyway.

Maybe he didn't check on how much extra it would cost to insure before fitting the mods?

Nope, not at all. It has door bins that can take upright bottles, so what's not to like?

Or, to put it another way, 'the MOT station said it's illegal'.

It's a nice idea though - take the mechanical bits from a newish hot hatch and put them in the older-lighter model, thus solving the problems most people flag up about hot hatches getting fatter and heavier.

Wouldn't say it was chavvy, it is quite tastefully done!

That's a whole lot of modification work to do in a month?!?!

As above, I wonder if he then got an insurance quote, and it was a D'Oh moment....

Would you say the same about a Mini Cooper? The AX GT is comparable.

Looks like a good install (not that you can ever really tell from 3 picture...)

Well worth £1450 imo.

Does the conversion lose enough points to bring it into BIVA inspection territory?

Could be why he's selling it...

EDIT

It would appear so...

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSell...

It only retains the 5 point for the monocoque, and 2 points for the steering, as everything else is Saxo donor, so doesn't meet the minimum 8 point to save it from a BIVA inspection.

Doesn't do it for me, I have to say.

Could make a decent-ish sleeper though?
