Suzuki Ignis Sport gearstick movement and petrol question
Discussion
Hi all ive just baught a Suzuki Ignis Sport on saturday and i have a question, there is slight movement in the gear lever, when i accelerate the gear stick moves back and when i take my foot off the accelerator the gearstick moves forward, is this normal it only moves about 5mm but its slightly annoying, when i dont have my hand on the gear stick i dont notice it
and about the petrol, in the manual and on the filler cap it recomends that i use over 98 octane petrol, im currently using normal 95 octane petrol, would this effect the engine in some way, should i start using higher octane fuels
heres some pictures of my car

Why are you driving with your hand on the gear stick? I'm sure 5mm movement is within limits and nothing to worry about.
when moving off from a standstill its easier to just keep my hand on the gear stick to go through the gears and the gears are stacked quite close together 70mph is at 4000rpm, i drive a citroen nemo van for work and this doesent have any movement in the gearstick whatsoever so i just thaught it may not be normal for the ignis to have movementEDLT said:
5mm of movement sounds ok to me, you might be able to reduce it with a new linkage but it would be expensive and a bit pointless.
If you run the car on 98 octane it may feel a little more powerful, with less flat-spots and maybe slightly better MPG.
thanks guess the movement is normal then, i might try out some higher octane petrol and see if there is any noticeable difference if not i may aswell stick to the cheaper stuff If you run the car on 98 octane it may feel a little more powerful, with less flat-spots and maybe slightly better MPG.

Nice Ignis! A real drivers car I reckon. Haven't been in one, but they are supposed to be a riot. Nice pics
yep i went for a little drive in it today up to castleton but theres loads of snow about so i didnt push it i was just getting used to it but off the sliproad onto the motorway though it goes like stink its allot faster than i thaught it would be it feels raw and its so lightNice Ignis Mate!! I've got a Blue one
Its worth the patience to wait till spring summer and have a proper blast!!! You'll be laughing then!
I've run mine on high octane only, except during the winter... I wont be driving it like a drivers car in the winter so wont bother with high octane for the moment. I'm usually quite religious with it, notice smoother performance and more MPG. Full tank of VPower only costs about £35-40 and gets about 280-300 miles! I tried a trial on Tesco Momentum not too long before the snow started, that works quite well aswell... so whatevers closer to you should be fine.
Make sure the surclip recall has been done, I got caught out with it and was out of a car for a week while I got the part ordered in.
You may find that servicing costs a tad more, but thats due to the special spark plugs which needs to be used.
Take care of the Enkeis!!! The last owner wasnt very kind with kerbs of my one... took ages to find the 1 that was missing!!! They are really good alloys.
Apart for that its more or less trouble free motoring and quite cheap motoring!!!
Anything you need to know give me a shout and i'll see if i've came across the same problem.

hi mate how would i now if the surclip has been done and i will be keeping the alloys on i realy like the skinnyness of them, none of mine have been curbed eather but i have noticed one of them has slight bubbling of the paint but my brother has a full spraying kit so i may refinish them myself in white of cause

and does your car have the gearstick movement like mine
Havent noticed much movement... well nothing which worries me. But I dont hold on to the gearstick when I'm driving...If it was done on recall I'm sure you can find out through suzuki... I'm not sure to be completely honest... Mine wasnt done, but I had it done after. The part itself isnt that expensive, it was just annoying waiting for the part and paying for the gearbox oil which leaked.
If you were touching up the alloys i'd strongly recommend doing all four, so you dont have a mismatch in colour... I got mine professionally powder coated, only cost £40 per wheel IIRC. Its also good to have best tyres you can afford when you need to change them... It helps quite a lot with the grip.

the inertia of the engine spinning causes the engine to move (Newton III) but unless it's excessive, it's not really an issue.
[pedant]Technically while it is Newton's 3rd law, it's the reaction of the engine's torque that causes the engine movement, rather than the inertia, although you can make the engine rock (or the whole car if the engine's big enough!) with inertia by revving it in neutral/with your foot on the clutch.Worth a shot, still a few heads popping up every once in a while...

Didn't notice it on mine, better ask on sisoc.
Think sisoc is dead?!?!:S Lol I've ener really managed to find a good Suzuki Forum where members were on daily or enough of a regular basis to offer substancial advice...doogz said:
Actually, can we leave it here, i don't want to do this again!
P.S. my truck wobbles from side to side if you rev it periodically.
300lbft of torque and s
t leaf spring suspension, and relatively narrow track.
If the OP's talking about the stick moving backwards and forwards when it's being driven, then it's the reaction of the engine against the torque its applying to the prop/driveshafts/whatever, i.e. propshaft goes clockwise, engine wants to turn anticlockwise on its mounts.P.S. my truck wobbles from side to side if you rev it periodically.
300lbft of torque and s
t leaf spring suspension, and relatively narrow track. Also, technically it's still the torque that causes the engine (and sometimes car) to wobble, the only difference is that the torque is being applied by accelerating the rotational inertia of the engine rather than to the driveline and wheels
.....sorry, I can't help it!
