I like a good tune, even though I left my teenage years behind 20 odd years ago.

But I still find myself reaching for the volume control on a regular basis. Even the wife says she can often hear the thudding before she can hear the engine when I'm pulling into the drive.

Is this normal behaviour or am I alone ?

I even find myself having to turn the volume down when at lights as I don't particularly like to draw attention to myself but it's often too late.

Is this acceptable behaviour for an adult or am I merely a chav in fancy dress ?

If you can't hear an Ambulance or Police siren from a good distance away, then your music is probably too loud.

Totally acceptible.
However, it is a sign that your exhaust note is not fruity enough. HTH.

Good point. Although if I do spot one, I'll tinker with the volume to suit and make a decent remix combining bass and sirens.

The Audi doesn't qualify for 'fruityness'. hehe The Griff on the otherhand requires no music enhancement whatsoever. biggrin

Liking your favourite tracks to be loud is perfectly normal. Given what I'm driving, I'm often conscious of what I look like (some kind of poor boy racer) when I pull up at traffic lights with the windows open and my music loud, but it's all about enjoying yourself.

Then again, classic rock/heavy metal aren't quite the same sort of music that boy racers tend to listen to. If you're playing dance music it's going to look worse. wink

You're a chav like me. Trance and drum n bass sounds crap at low volumes. Plus when it's a good tune you just have to share!

Actually, roof down, banging dance tunes... they probably think I'm a Heaven regular.

Ok grumpyarse.

I'm deaf.

You saying I can't therefore be safe to drive?

No, exactly, now jog on my son.

I'm afraid, this is the music of choice for maximum volume. whistle

Again, totally acceptible. D+B sounds best when the rear view mirror becomes all blurry.

This thread has reminded me that I really, really need to sort out the tuns in my repmobile!

For me it's the only chance I get to listen to loud music, the morning and evening commute can be dull but is often made more enjoyable by getting the volume up.

I also turn it down when approaching traffic lights, and when nearing residential areas at night.

I have a simple formula,

If your music's shaking my car it's too loud.

With respect; you're probably not as likely to notice an emergency vehicle as quickly as somebody with 'normal' hearing.

In the same way that somebody playing extremely loud music is unlikely to be alerted as quickly as a person driving with quiet (or no) music.

What I find rather odd is this:

In the UK, it's actually legal to drive around with headphones on.

However, in some other countries it's against the law, for this very reason.

I wasn't being grumpy and I certainly didn't make any statement about it being unsafe to drive with loud music.

In fact you were the one who said that....

I find that I like some music stupidly loud, since I got my first convertable this year I have noticed a need to turn it down in towm as the wind roar has gone and everyone looks at you strangely.
In the 4x4 I just turn it down when I get to the house so I don't scare the crap out of my wife next time she borrows it.

We got our first detached house in January, it's so nice to be able to crank up the volume without annoying the neighbours. My wife works during the day (I work offshore so have time off for a couple of weeks at a time) so I can have it blaring as much as I want.

I'm 33.

The reason I had to squeeze a 10" sub & amp in my non existant boot and fit proper components was Dubstep and grime. Get a life quickly...it's too late for me.

Oh, and OP, blurry mirrors are fine, rattly lock assemblies and trim are not. If it buzzes, turn it down or dynomat it.
