Friend has asked me if I had any idea on the following:

He has lexus GS Auto.

When he drives it around town it runs perfectly.

On his 100 mile commute along the motorway it runs fine but if there is traffic which is at a near standstill when he slows down to below 5mph the car will stall. He has to restart the car and the car will run perfectly for the rest of the journey even if he has to stop. He says basically every journey it stalls once only and after it has restarted its absolutley fine gain with no such issues.

Any ideas?

Id say a speed sensor issue that is used by the ecu for emissions and the like,a possible fault code might be stored if you can get hold of a reader,or even pop to your local dealer to get them to scan to see whats what .....

But if thats his only issue then he is doing well.....

Had a similar problem on a Volvo V70 auto - it was the idle control unit and was a known problem so was replaced by the manufacturer, even though the car was outside of the warranty period (just over 6 years old) - Although they did try and tell me it needed £1200 of additional work which I refused!

Worth a call to the dealer to check
