So,

The old man went to his insurers about getting me put on his kit car's insurance. Happy days! Long have i fantasised about driving his P & J and it might finally happen.

But no! The insurers won't touch me until i'm 30 frown

The car, FWIW is a Dax Cobra. The donor car was a Jag XJS v12.

So, is this standard practice for classic insurance? Will we have more luck when i'm 25? (currently 24)

Am i pissing in the wind to even consider getting insured on it before 30, or are these particular insurers being stingy on their policies regarding driver age? (and yes, i know stats suggest i'm risky driver etc...)

Opinions and sharing of experiences appreciated. smile

Thanks!

Have you tried a different insurer?

That is quite a beast - you can understand their reluctance. To them (I'm not suggesting that you are) it may look like fronting.
Have you tried insuring it through that broker with you as the primary driver, but still on a classic policy?

Whats it valued at? Also it would be classed as Kit car insurance.

We'll be looking at another insurer when the renewal comes round, and hopefully find an insurer who will cover me when i turn 25. I can appreciate their reluctance - it's not exactly a slow car and has relatively few driving assists for the power on tap. The car's been insurered with the same providers for a few years so i don't think they're looking at it from a fronting point of view (unless there's a blanet policy to prevent the possibility) but i think they're just deeming too risky for thier liking.

Dad is a member of the cobra club, so i'm sure he'll look for alternatives through them, amongst other places.

I don't know the exact value of the car but i'd estimate about £14k to £18k?

Flux will be able to do it when it comes up for renewal and as long as your over 25 at the time. They dont cover any named drivers under 25 and dont offer any fronted risks. HTH

I've been insured on classic policies for an E30 M3 and V12 E-type since I was 25 so it can be done.

Currently with Hagerty
