I'm thinking it might be easier just to get a cheap set of some random alloy.

The main reason is I'm fed up of the salt eating at the lacquer each Winter.

Wouldn't a set of cheap alloys be just as easy to get?

Try some of the Volkswagen forums, -35 offset usually and a few of them run "banded steels".
