Numberplate retention question

Chaps,

I've got a numberplate on retention and had the reminder through about it expiring. Now, I've been less than organised of late, and the reminder states it runs out tomorrow. If I hot-foot it down to the local DVLA office tomorrow, can I still extend it? Or is it too late?

Can I even extend the retention at a local office?

Have to be honest, I have forgotten in the past (For about a week if memory serves me correctly), sent a covering letter with an apology and the fee and they have just renewed it!

Don't bother going to your local LO, just fill it out with a cheque dated a couple of days ago and put it in the post 1st or 2nd class.
I sent one in a month late (with a covering letter of apology and cheque) and the extension came back as usual a week later.

Why quote his post? Do you think we don't know to what your answer refers to?
