i have heard of a similar concept to drag racing up near vertical cliffs in Iceland which is called formula 4x4.

In Iceland it's called Benna Billa - sand buggies running 900bhp on scooped tyres. Only runs a few days a year in the summer. Last year I missed an event by one day. Will hopefully get to see some next year as we're going in June.
