Trading in for a cheaper car - cash back?
Discussion
Currently in the process of seperating from legal and was wondering how dealers view trading in a car for a cheaper one and giving cash back. I have had no experience of this and dont know if it is even an option. I have a 2006 (new shape) x k coupe with all the extras with about 30000 miles on clock and will need something for kids and dog moving forward. I could try a pvt sale but was wondering if i bought something for say £15k at a dealers would they pay me a cheque for balance or is this just not going to happen in current economic climate. Thanks for any replies. Paul

We do it all the time....just find a garage that sells the type of car you want to move on, or why not sell it outright and go shopping for another car
to be honest I am so busy i am struggling on time to sell it privately and I am not sure how bouyant the market is for pvt sales... it is low on my list of sh*t jobs to do but one that will have to happen..I tried this a couple of years ago - if you try and do the deal with one dealer they'll just give you book price for your car and ask you to pay top price for the car you want.
Best bet is to sell privately, or to a Jag dealer as another poster suggests, and buy your new car privately or from another dealer to get the best price as a cash putrchaser.
