Wife is considering a new car and one of the options is a pre-registered, delivery-miles-only hatchback reduced from £14,500 to £13,000. Car was registered two months ago so it's a '60' plate but of course we'd be the second owners. It's done 10 miles and has been sat in the showroom.

Is this sort of discount fair/high/low? What's normal? There are a few similar cars on Autotrader for the same price but none cheaper, and not locally. Should we expect a dealer to be willing to haggle over the price on a pre-reg car - especially at the end of the year - or are these sorts of deals pretty robustly defended by dealers?

I wouldn't think it being the end of the year will make much difference TBH (Unless it's the end of their financial year, and they need cash in the bank)

The car is already registered, and is likely to have been done to unlock their ladder bonus from the manufacturer.

Depends totally on the car. On a Fiesta then yes, haggle for your life. Audi A1? Probably not

Agree with both responses. Unlikely to find a pre-reg Audi A1 though.

Thanks.

It's not a new model so there's no halo around it. But it is a premium model in the range (convertible) and values/residuals are strong.

I can't believe the dealer would be making more than £1500 margin on RRP so their reduced price might be their cost. Perhaps I should be satisfied with a few extras rather than a further price reduction?
