Discussion
A Mercedes owner is pretty p155ed off after a Sainsbury's car wash lifted up his ML.

He claims its a write off with £4k damage but it doesn't look that bad. Still, the cheek of the supermarket. They didn't even give him a refund!
Amazing quote time: ”I’m really shaken up. It was like something out of Terminator. It was like a giant hairdryer that was on a killing spree, I was absolutely petrified.”

What's the bets he tried to drive off while the machine was still running?http://swns.com/car-wash-causes-4000-damage-to-mer...

I imagine that's why Sainsburys are "looking into it".

Feel for him having his P&J damaged but he sounds like a bit of a drama queen just looking for his 5 minutes.
It went from inching towards his bonnnet, to slamming into it and going crazy.
Hmmm....
if he felt it was his P & J he wouldnt have taken it to an automatic car wash....It went from inching towards his bonnnet, to slamming into it and going crazy.

...and if he was a car enthusiast, the story wouldn't feature an ML320

I've had one of these automated car washes damage my last car.
The wheel brushes that are on arms and come into the wheels when you car gets to the right place, one came in with a hell of a bang and put a dent in the wheel.
I guess the arm mechanism must have been sticky and then came free with a jolt.
Pointless even trying to get compensation from the car wash owners or Tescos. (Kingston, Milton Keynes for reference)
The dent wasn't serious and didn't affect balance, just annoying on what were good condition wheels.
Ever since I've always used the hand wash car washes if I don't do it myself.

years ago I worked for B&Q Autocentres and we installed new automatic wash units which too the car through on a conveyor system. The damage that occurred to cars was mainly due to other reasons. One jeep had the screen punched in, still complete it landed on the owners lap who went through the full cycle holding it (faulty retention clip). Rear wipers were always getting tangled and would lift the rear of the car Usually because they were switched on). People would swicth on the radio and the ariel would become torn off and wrapped around the brush where it would gouge the body work. Obviously it was always the fault of the wash not the driver

I only ever use arc car washes. Never had any issues whereas i have had both a hand carwash scratch my paintwork and a tiger wash did the same.
Arc are good as they d an under car wash which is handy for the winter months.
Arc is the only carwash that's ever damaged one of my wheels (on their dram-me-through-the-wash conveyor chain thing). Thus they are the only ones I actually avoid.Arc are good as they d an under car wash which is handy for the winter months.

Regularly use ARC, but may have to stop now as I just noticed today that the price of their basic wash has gone up from 99p to £1.30!!

Were these once known as IMO?. Whenever I mention the carwash to co-workers they always call it IMO and have no clue what ARC is, despite the rather prominent signs.
