I've been considering selling the Evo, and my daily run around (a Puma), putting some of the money into my business, and getting an Alfa GT with the remaining money.

The budget for the car is £5,000-£7,000.

Is the Alfa a wise buy?

Is there a decent alternative for that money? I'm looking for a bit of class and style, diesel or petrol. Must be a bit unusual/rare, hence the Alfa.

Thanks biggrin

They are great cars to drive, the interior is based on the 147 though and hence isn't exceptionally well screwed together, despite being nice to look at. Which engine were you looking towards?

I've never really geled with the looks of the GT, sort of looks individual, but a bit minnging and akward from some angles.

Think I'd personally spend less and look at a GTV6 coupe (or maybe a 2.0 version). Prettier and better looking IMO.

You mean GTV V6, or '80s GTV6?

Good call, but it wouldn't be much cheaper! The values of the V6s seem to be going skywards at the moment.

Woohoo! Excuse to upload mine:

I love mine. It's the diesel version, and is actually nicer to drive than I expected it to be. I actually find the interior very well screwed together. Well, compared my old Alfa, anyways.

Are they? Is 4k for a good low mileage V6 of circa 99/00 vintage no longer the mark?

Maybe it's just something psychological, but overall prices seem to have increased a fair bit since I was looking just a few months ago.

Well either actually smile

Although I meant the GTV V6.

GTV is a lovely car (I nearly got one), but as the only car in his new fleet it would be woefully impractical - the boot is tiny, back seats useless etc etc. I'll still be getting a V6 when I have the space.

Not that I was really looking, but I thought I saw some for £3k and under the other week. So assume a £6k budget would get you a minter and still save a wedge.

Strangely i'm in a similar position, where i am trying to think of reasons not to buy one.

I currently drive a 147GTA, and as much as i love it, i think its time to buy an oil burner and stop hemorrhaging (sp?) ridiculous amounts of money fuelling and insuring the 3.2.

The GT is a fantastic drive and a lovely place to be.

Only thing thats hindering my decision is that GTA's have started to appreciate, so not sure if i should buy a small shed to use as my daily and just keep hold of her.

Go for it!

Stephen.

I think you'd be lucky to get a decent, low-mileage JTDm GT for that money, at least I'd hope so anyway otherwise ours has dropped a shed-load of cash! biggrin

Make sure you get leather and 18" wheels, and Bose if you can. Connect Nav+ is pretty good, despite what people that have never had it may say, so if the car has that I'd consider it a bonus.

The diesel will return ~44mpg all day long with mixed driving, and is more than powerful enough with 150bhp. Expect the EGR valve to get clogged up or die at some point, £100 to replace yourself or £0 to clean yourself. £300 for a dealer to replace though.

This looks nice

Wish mine had the Bose system. That's my only gripe - crappy stereo

Have you changed the head unit? We've put a nice Alpine in ours and it sounds much better than the standard.

No - standard at the mo. I hear it's a bugger to retrofit the Bose sub etc, but didn't think about changing the head itself and using the existing speaker setup. It's an option. I think I may have blown a rear speaker, too...

Shouldn't go looking at Autotrader and finding a £5.5k 147GTA in blue with blue / black leather...

Dammit.

Whilst the Bose was an improvement over the standard, it's still made to a price. Fitting a decent HU and speakers will give you a similar result to the Bose for around £300.
